Casino Etiquette: Watch Your Behavior

You never want to be this guy: the token casino jerk. You know, the dude who’s yelling too loud, drinking too much or just plain ignoring the simple rules of game he’s playing.

You’ve sat beside him, you’ve heard him yelling for no discernable reason, you’ve seen him kicked off a table and you’ve seen him escorted out the casino by security.

And if you haven’t seen these things you’re probably the casino jerk yourself. Just in case you’re clueless about all of this we’ll dish out some rules you need to know so you won’t become this guy.

Don’t Drink Too Much

… Unless you’re at the casino just to get drunk in the first place. We know it’s tough to resist free alcohol while playing Blackjack, but unless you’re only there to get free drinks before you head to the club, you need to slow down. Nothing’s worse than being too drunk while you’re risking real money, as eventually you’re going to start making stupid moves or start risking more than you’re supposed to. Plus, once you start annoying others at your table, or your words become an indecipherable slur, security will kindly cash you out and kick you to the curb.

Don’t Swear at the Dealer

This is a tough one, we know. Because if you’re like us, nothing makes you feel better about losing a ton of money they tossing profanities at the person who just grabbed your chips. But you can’t do it.

You think a dealer gives a crap about their table losing money? And do you think they care that they’re taking yours? They work for the casino, but they could care less if you take every chip they have, so don’t shove f-bombs in their face just because they got 21 off seven cards. The only thing swearing at the dealer will do is make them uncomfortable and get you kicked out.

Know Etiquette for Specific Games

We know this one’s tough for new casino players. But before trying out new casino games, we suggest doing some Google searching to not only learn the rules but to learn the etiquette.

Some etiquette goes without saying, like slow playing when there are other people at your table. We know coming to a decision that could hurt your wallet is tough, but other people want to play as well, and they don’t want to watch your brain sweat for an hour.

Other etiquette is a little more complicated: Like proper Blackjack play. Although it’s more strategy than etiquette, most players expect others at their table to know what they’re doing, because one bad move can affect the entire table.

Games like Roulette and Craps have their own etiquette as well. In Roulette you must stop placing bets once the dealer says “no more bets”. In Craps, if you’re the “shooter”, you must keep the dice in one hand to avoid suspicion of illegally swapping them.
